Jacob's 8th Birthday

Happy Birthday Jacob! Thanks for inviting us to your party! A great time was had by all at Arctic Gymnastics!

Lent Children's Event

Doug and Zach had talked about heading to either snowboard or attend the Sportsman's Show today. I told Sam that he and I would go make some crafts at church. Zach said that he wanted to go too! He really likes this event and all the various tables with fun crafts.

So, off we went...we had a good time, arriving shortly after the event started and finishing as everything was being put away.

From the church newsletter: LENT EVENT

Is a time to gather and celebrate the Risen Christ in Easter through crafts, cookie decorating, and fellowship. The Lent Event is geared towards families with elementary age children. Tables are set up in the Life Center and children may do as much or as little as they choose. The Lent Event will be held on Saturday, March 31, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. We hope you take this time to gather with your church family and reflect on keeping Christ in Easter. You will still have the chance to search for Easter eggs and do a bunny craft, but we also focus on the Risen Christ through tissue paper flowers, coffee filter butterflies, and empty crosses.


We all love Debbie and were happy to see her at the event!


Jason Bolstead and his family now attend St. John United Methodist Church. Jason is the Accountant at Halliburton. He, his wife and 2 girls moved up from Texas about a year ago. We need to have them over for dinner some night; nice family.

Recycle Runaway

Friday was a long day of sitting in airplanes and airports. It is fun to go away every now and then, but I am glad I don't have a job where I would travel all the time.

I flew Panama City - Atlanta, Georgia - Salt Lake City, Utah - Anchorage. 10,000+ miles!

The Atlanta airport is beautiful! Great displays on black heritage, an Antarctica exhibit and cases of dresses from the Recycle Runway project.

Nancy Judd creates couture fashion sculptures made from trash (the Recycle Runway Collection) and displays her garments in high-traffic traveling exhibitions in museums, airports, and shopping malls. Each of her garments takes between 100-650 hours to create, and her goal is that they will last for 100 years. Ms. Judd loves the challenge of making garbage elegant and inspiring people to look differently at waste.

Short Hair

Grandpa got a spring haircut! Well, actually it is cut really short as with the chemotherapy his hair will be falling out. Dad's first round of chemotherapy is completed and now we have to wait a few days for the results to come back on the success of the treatments. We are thinking about you and hoping for good news early next week!

Dad has such a positive out look on all of this....we are so proud of him! Stay strong!

Everyone is Thinking Spring!

Papa sent a couple pictures of him getting their camper ready for action! We have been doing the same at our house with getting the oil in the boat motors changed and the boat all cleaned up. Our boat will be heading out of the garage next week for Buster's Canvas Shop for some canvas work on the back deck. From there it will go out to the shop that is going to put a crane on it for lifting our dingy.....the crane is really a necessary item as one of us is going to get hurt trying to man-handle it up on top of the boat. Spring is in the air!!

Flag Ceremony

In order to move up the next level of Cub Scouts, the boys in our den need to have a certain number and type of activity from the Cub Scout book completed. We are a group of working parents who just have fun at the meetings and casually plan events. Now, with two weeks to go, we are in high gear to finish the last few items! So, one of them was a flag ceremony which was completed last night at the church.

The Big Retainer Day!

Wednesday was the big day! Doug took Zach to the orthodontist on Wednesday to pick-up his retainer. Hopefully it will help straighten the teeth now as they are coming in and make any future orthodontic work easier and less drastic.

New Retainer

Zach got his new retainer this week. It is going to take some getting used to! The video of him singing is hysterical! His speech will get better as he gets used to the retainer being in his mouth.

Carl's Jr

On Wednesday, Doug and Cecile and 4 boys headed for dinner at Carl's Jr. Both Doug and Cecile were "single parents" this week, so a break from cooking dinner was welcome. In addition to feeding the boys and letting them play on the play structure, there was the need to review the Cub Scout book to determine what needs to be completed in the next couple of weeks to finish the requirements for the boys to move to the next level.

People probably think....wow that couple has their hands full with 4 kids!!

Ball and Chain Crew and a new view

The "guy's weekend" better known as the "Ball and Chain weekend" (who ever has the hardest time getting away or can't make it and has a bad excuse gets the Ball and Chain award) was the same weekend that Kirsten and I were gone in Panama.

Just the guys, no kids....thank goodness for awesome friends. Zach went to stay with Jacob for the weekend and Sam was able to drive to Seward with Doug and then stay at Kirsten's house with Kiana and Kaelan. All worked out well for everyone and everyone had a great time at the cabin in Seward.

Doug will have to tell the stories......here are the pictures in the mean time. What great weather!
