Gulf Crossing in Style!

The weather out past Whittier was rough, Doug was watching the weather reports closely hoping that there would be a break long enough that he would be able to help "crew" the Miss Brizz around from Whittier to Seward.  Our friend, Shane, does some "crew" work for the Miss Brizz owner in the summer when he has clients.  A boat that Doug and I couldn't afford to charter!  So, what a GREAT opportunity.  The weather was looking good for early Saturday morning, so Shane came and got Doug about 9 pm on Friday night.  Everyone would take off at 5 am on Saturday.

A little fishing in the open ocean on Saturday would leave Doug green and sea-sick, but still having a great time.  The guys spent the night in Seward on the boat on Saturday and would come home on Sunday.  There was a music festival happening in Seward on Saturday night......what a great weekend!

3rd Grade Bible

A couple weeks ago we received a letter from the church to let us know that at the September 30th church services the 3rd graders would receive their Bibles.

I got out my Bible and Zach and I had fun looking at it.  September 26, 1982 is when I received mine.  Hard to believe that 30 years and 4 days later my son would be receiving his!

The big day had come!  Saying hi to Debbie on the way into church.

Of course, we had a to look at the book sale at the church (a fundraiser for the pre-school).  We didn't get the Penguins book, but Zach read it quickly as we waited for church to start.

We had seen Bob, one of the church founders, at the building last Thursday when we were there for Cub Scouts.  Zach staked his claim then to get to ring the bell to signal the church service was about to begin.

Waiting patiently for the kid's time and then off to Sunday school.

Yeah Zach!!

Children's time and then off to Sunday school!

With the friends in the 9:30 am Sunday school class.  The 11 am class has just as many.  I think there were 19 kids who got their Bibles today.

With Pastor Peter Perry.

Zach had to be back at church by 12:30 pm for an introduction to the Bible course for the 3rd graders.  I had told Zach and Sam that we would go to IHOP for lunch, but the wait list ended up being too long.  We ended up at McDonald's.  Do you know that the "Big Breakfast" has something like 1,200 calories!!  It was a lot of food, Zach and Sam would have breakfast the next day too.

Snacks and a learning session. It was a really nice day for Zach.
